Ever since I heard about Gordon Ramsay opening a restaurant in Singapore, I got excited because you know, he’s famous and I just wanted to experience having a meal in his restaurant. But like most of you, I assumed it was really expensive and being located at Marina Bay Sands, it was more reason for me to not think about it because I assumed it would be too costly.
I was surprised that they have a very affordable weekday lunch set menu at $40 for 2 courses and $48 for 3 courses. As such, I made a reservation and I would say it was a pleasant experience.
The ambience was relaxed and casual. The service staff were extremely friendly as well as attentive to customers’ needs. At first, I wanted to have a 3-course meal but the waiter said I could decide if I wanted the 3rd course after having the first 2 courses. We decided to stick to just 2 courses (true enough, we were filled to the brim by the 2nd course and were fortunate that we decided against the dessert.)
We started off with the cured salmon and pan seared lamb haggis as appetisers. When the cured salmon arrived, we were pleased with the simplicity of the plating. It was fresh and vibrant. The avocado puree and orange suited the dish well as it was creamy and tangy. I enjoyed the lamb haggis, which came with a crispy egg, garlic puree and watercress salad. The flavours were light and the textures from the lamb and egg complimented one another. We couldn’t wait for our mains!
I had the pan fried seabass for my main course. The fish was fresh and it was crispy on the outside whilst the meat was soft and not at all flaky. I also topped it off with the fennel sauce which was great. The zucchini spaghetti which came with the dish was definitely new to my palette as I don’t usually eat spaghetti. The flavour wasn’t overpowering and I remember savouring it.
She normally wouldn’t go for gnocchi, but it sounded good on the menu. The gnocchi was cooked well which left it soft and tasty seeing that it was pan seared with parmesan. The mushroom veloute was warm and hearty. She was pretty full by then as it’s a dish that could certainly fill you up.
Overall, we enjoyed every dish and I have to say the dishes are quite different from the usual you can order from such restaurants. It was surely a really nice first experience and I think I would definitely try again in future.
