When I was in Secondary School, my standard lunch meal would consist of laksa, popiah, and ice jelly. Sometimes with a soft drink as well, but now that I am older, I can’t seem to eat as much, which is not necessarily bad thing.
This dessert stall and popiah stall is right beside the laksa stall. They used to share the same area but I think they once had a conflict and separated from one another. However, you can now buy food from any of these 3 stalls and sit at any of the tables they have.
So after laksa, we decided to share a popiah and a bowl of ice jelly, you know, just to re-live my old days.
For those who do not know, popiah is a dish made from popiah skin, soft-braised turnips and some other condiments like chilli paste, sweet sauce, hard-boiled eggs, prawns, beansprouts, and peanuts. Popiah skin itself is a thin crepe-like skin made from wheat flour. Again, I have tried quite a few popiahs and none of them tastes like this one in Yishun.
As for the dessert, it’s nothing special, but it’s good for sure. There is a ton of variety and the price is cheap as well. A perfect end to an indulgent lunch!
