We came here for my birthday and it was a really pleasant experience. Of course, Salt Grill and Sky Bar is known for its breathtaking views and since we were there for dinner, we managed to catch the sun setting. It was a perfect way to start our meal. The staff were very pleasing and friendly as well as informative about the dishes on the menu. As we were there for dinner, we ordered from their ala carte menu which is pretty pricey. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, you might want to check out their lunch menu.
For starters, we had a plate of exquisite Geraldton Kingfish Sashimi and Bangalow Pork Belly. The pork belly had a very rich caramel colour. However, the meat was tougher than I had expected. As for the sashimi appetizer, the flavours in the ginger and shallot dressing paired well together with the fresh and thinly-sliced kingfish sashimi. The grains also gave the dish a good texture. The portions were just nice for one or two persons and we were excited to move on to our mains.
We decided on the Dorper Lamb Rack which was $75 and the Surf and Turf, 220g Black Angus Sirloin Steak which was $88. The lamb rack was a 48 hour shoulder, grilled to perfection. It had the most beautiful pink hue that I had ever seen. When I placed a piece into my mouth, the meat was soft but had a good bite to it. It was sensational.
The steak was presented beautifully and being a prawn lover, she couldn’t wait to dive into the smokey grilled prawns. We had asked for a medium rare steak as a usual preference. However, the steak felt more well done than she had liked. We brought this up to the staff and they got it replaced immediately. This time round, it was definitely perfectly cooked. They had explained that different cuts may give off a tougher feel.
We ended the dinner with a variety of flavoured sorbets including lychee and cherry. The sorbet was so so so smooth and it didn’t melt quickly, which was awesome.
Overall, I felt the food here was one of the best I’ve had in an expensive restaurant. This is the most money I’ve spent in a restaurant (although I didn’t pay a cent because I have a wonderful girlfriend). But it was the best service and experience to date.
It is surely pricey but pretty worth it for a special occasion. The view is great and I’m especially pleased with the staff’s friendliness. They are not pushy and seem to really want to serve and please the customer. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those who love a good view and exquisite food.
