I have heard a lot about this stall but I never made the effort to come here until recently. What I heard from my friends is that this owner’s father has a Herbal Chicken stall in a hawker centre at Bedok and this stall belongs to his son who set up this zhe char stall here.
First impression, the seating area is huge and they have quite a different ordering manner as compared to other stalls but I was pleased because most of the workers were very friendly and helpful. The system was to order first and then the worker would find a seat for you so you did not need to worry too much about your seat being taken while you are ordering. The prices and names of the dishes are all printed right outside the huge kitchen but the only issue is that it was all in mandarin. So if you can’t read mandarin, just get the help of the workers and they will help you.
I ordered 4 dishes; the chao tah bee hoon, fried pork belly, herbal chicken soup and fried beans. I enjoyed all the dishes very much, especially theĀ chao tah bee hoon, which literally means burnt noodles. The way this has been prepared is just amazing. The noodles are cooked right to the edge of getting burnt but not yet. The noodles itself is tasty and the crisp on the outside is simply lovely.
There is no air conditioning and do be prepared to wait if you visit them during peak hours but I have to say, all the 3 times I went there, it was well worth the wait.
