The last time I had pork knuckle, I had it at a shop in Toa Payoh and it was amazing. But soon after, my friend tried it and it became terrible because it seems the management changed. So when my friend shared a video about this lady at Joo Chiat serving German food, I had to try it! And I actually came here unknowingly on a Friday night because I was meeting a friend nearby.
We ordered a pork knuckle and a farmer’s sausage. The knuckle cost $28 and the sausage cost $25. The sausage is made in-house but honestly for $25, I expected much more. It was undoubtedly tasty, grilled to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning, enjoyable but I did not feel I got my money’s worth. The pork knuckle was huge and the first thing I always look out for is the skin. Fortunately, most parts of the skin was perfect (some parts did not crackle and it was too hard to bite) and not too hard to bite but unfortunately, I did not exactly enjoy the meat. I felt it was too dry and hard and I definitely have had better before.
Overall, I think its a really old and quaint restaurant and I am very happy that they have been in business for 30 years! But I think maybe the food needs a little bit of change and improvement. Would I come again? Yes, but I will not try the sausage and knuckle again. They have many other dishes and maybe they taste better.
